Principal's Page
Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to another amazing and exciting year at Southwood. I am pleased and honored to join the wildcat family as the Principal of Southwood Middle School. If you are new to the wildcat family like me, I would like to officially welcome you. Southwood is a safe, exciting and unique environment that will enable your child to mature and flourish educationally and socially. I have been fortunate enough to spend some time this summer becoming familiar with many of the outstanding things that are taking place in the district and at Southwood. I would be remissed if I didn’t express how proud I am to join a community and school that has made such a strong commitment to providing quality instruction to all students through 21st Century Learning Strategies.

I was born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois and over the course of my professional career I have been fortunate enough to serve in various educational capacities in Northwest Indiana, Englewood/ Chicagolawn in Chicago, Waukegan and Harvey. My time serving as a teacher and in different administrative roles ranging from Athletic Director, Dean, Assistant Principal and Principal have aided me in understanding the importance of providing quality instruction rooted in excellence for all students.

My greatest initiative is to provide leadership that will inspire and facilitate a school environment that will educationally empower middle school students through differentiated instruction, high expectations and a concerted effort to assist students in reaching their full potential as they transition to high school.

While education is my passion and vocation, I believe that the most successful schools understand that it takes a “village” to educationally transform students’ lives. I will certainly need your help and support to continue improving the level of academic excellence in each of our classrooms at Southwood.

We will need your support in ensuring that your child understands that school is a place to learn and grow through taking academic risks, and the rich sets of skills that your child will acquire along the way are invaluable for your child’s future.

I look forward to fostering a partnership with you through various events and activities including our school’s PTO, volunteering and attending special events that are hosted at the school. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to all the outstanding things that we will accomplish this year. Go wildcats!

Educationally Yours,
Mr. Michael Allen
